Sgt Arthur Romero, R.I.P.

Postby disconnect » June 3rd, 2009, 10:23 pm

Hello Everyone,

This evening, we received some sad news. Sgt Arthur Romero, a long time member of both wmd and HfG has passed away. I do not know all of the details, but he has been battling cancer for quite some time. He was always quite open about this part of his life. I struggled with whether or not it was appropriate to make a post about the subject. I think Romero would have wanted it, he truly loved this place, and touched many of us.

I've met a lot of people through my journeys of online gaming, Romero will always rank among the nicest and most memorable. One conversation we had stands out as I take some time to think about him. I had just had my surgery for my in-grown toe nail, and was complaining about the pain (I think I was complaining to Magno at the time). Romero joined Ventrilo and came and joined the conversation... I felt about 2 inches tall, complaining about a toe surgery, to someone who's fought multiple rounds against cancer. I'll never forget what he said when I told him I felt like an idiot, he said "Disco, pain is pain man!" haha. He was always a great fella to talk to, very down to earth. I'm happy that he chose to spend his evenings here with us.

I encourage anyone who would like to contribute to this thread to do so.

Romero's myspace can be seen here.

Romero's funeral guestbook can be seen here.

R.I.P Romero, it was an honour getting to know you my friend. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Chris

It's always sad when any in the military (or formerly in the military?) die but it's always worse when you know them (even in passing). I never really played too much with Romero. He was mostly playing DoD:S while I was playing CS:S/TF2 and by the time he got into TF2, I was already bored with it.

I do wish the best for his family. You'll be in my thoughts.

I don't think I've cried so much from someone dying since Batman in 2005 but that's another story.
"It's infected! If this were a human being, I'd shoot it in the face!"

'I understand that you, uh, nearly beat a rabbit to death with a broom handle...'
"It was with a dust pan and it was self-defense." 'Was it a Vorpal Rabbit?'

R.I.P. Batman. You died a hero.

I didn't know Romero too well since I didn't play DoD. But Romero was a good guy and was a great addition to our community. He will be greatly missed.

It is a very sad time when you have a friend that has passed away. Romero and I would talk whenever he was on, he was always upbeat not matter what was going on with him. I wish the best for his family going through this tough time. Please keep his Wife and kids in your thoughts and prayers.

Romero I know you are looking down at all of us now, watching over your family and all of us. We will miss you and you have a special spot in all of our hearts.

Rest In Peace Sgt Arthur Romero.

Romero was a wonderful guy. Never a bad word to say about anyone and always friendly, well spoken and helpful. I wasn't even aware of his battle with cancer.

Rest in peace Romero we will miss you :(

I am truly speechless, Romero was a great man and one of the reasons I played DoD so often. We use to try and get the server going, so we would play one-v-one and needless to say I got rocked a lot.
Romero was probably one of the most optimistic people I have ever met and he will be immensely missed.
Rest in peace friend

R.I.P friend, you're a great guy. I had a lot of fun playing DOD:S with you back in the days of WMD nearly every night.

He is missed something fierce. I have spent many hours playing DoD with Romero, great times and memories.
